Utopia

The top ten reasons why Burgos is Tess' Utopia (with some visual illustrations):

10.) The beauty of this ancient city and its culture.

9.) There is something in the water that makes children insanely cute, polite and chic. I watched a little boy in a navy blazer excuse himself from breakfast and then kiss both his mother and father goodbye before heading to use the computer. If I could have that sort of child, it might just be worth it.

8.) Storks. I am now obsessed with this animatronic looking bird, and was happy to see they nested here, as well. If it's a good enough city for them, it's good enough for me.

7.) Public art is beloved. Elaborate arches. Intricate fountains. Crazy topiaries. And bronze statues that fill the streets.

6.) That dude in the middle lives here.

5.) Pastries. Below, a sushi box of sugary delights and a crocheted tableau of treats.

4.) These people love to party. And everyone gets in on it, from tiny tots to grey-haired gents. We witnessed three weddings last night (the streets were popping until about 6am) and about a dozen christening parties today. In the party at our hotel, even the cocktail waitress was dancing as she served drinks to guests.

3.) Hats. Oh the hats!

2.) I can snag that rich, older husband who still looks good.

1.) Fashion is king. They pride themselves on looking good here. The tapas bar last night was full of flashy business suites and sleek colorful dresses - the streets an endless fashion show. Even the bathroom signs have style.
